“Grand Vin de Reignac”

Region : L’entre-deux-Mers Is a vast region located some 80 kms south-east of the city of Bordeaux. As its name indicates, this geographical area is enclosed between two large rivers: the Dordogne to the north, and the Garonne to the south. L’Entre-deux-Mers forms the largest wine-growing area in France. On a planted area of about 7000 ha, the winegrowers in the region produce 335 000 hl per year. The Entre-deux-Mers has a wide variety of reliefs, exhibitions and soils (sand, clay, gravel and limestone and clay soils), both favorable to the cultivation of white and red vines.

Grape Variety : 67% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon,

8% Cabernet Franc.

Type of Soil : Gravely soil on the left bank (Perfect for the Merlot) and clay-chalky soil on the right bank (Perfect for Cabernet Franc).

Density of Planting : 6600 vines/ha

Age of Vines : 40 years old

Yield : 30 hl/ha

Features : 14% alcohol. Contains sulfites.

Cultural method : Spring de-budding, Thinning out leaves manually, Leaf removal on east facing side, Green harvest in two times, Hand picking into small baskets, double sorting both before and after destemming.

Winemaking : vinified in small stainless-steel vats lot by lot and grape variety by grape after cold maceration. Run off the wine while still warm for malolactic fermentation on the lees in barrels.

Aged in French oak barrels with 50% of new ones The lees are regularly stirred by rotation of the barrel For up to 19 months.

The Colour : Dark Red

The Smell : The nose is fruity and powerful with notes of sour cherry, blackcurrant jam and hints of blackberry associated with raspberry jam. Notes of flower as well as a touch of Sichuan pepper and a discreet hint of Ceylon tea.

The Taste : The mouth is fruity, delicious, mineral, suave and offers a nice freshness with a silky and slightly creamy matter. On the palate this wine expresses notes of cherry, plum and flint associated with fine touches of strawberry. Very fine toasted woody notes as well as fine touches of Bourbon vanilla pod. The tannins are fine and elegant.

Serving Suggestions : This wine will go very well with any kind of red meat but also game.
